A new series: Tavern Musicals, to be hosted by Franklin 820 in the fall and spring!
Our first showis a return engagement of "Impossible But True" during the month of October, followed by "Ybor City" in early 2020. Both shows will receive 6-8 performances.
The idea of Brooklyn Tavern Theater is to make original musical theater possible for artists and accessible to the local community. For over a year now, we have been doing shows on and off at Franklin 820, a neighborhood bar in Crown Heights, and the next step is to make this project financially sustainable.
How can you help? We need sponsors. We want to keep ticket prices affordable and keep the bar open to the local community. We think we can bring in around $500 per show, we need to raise an equal amount from outside. This is immersive theater in an intimate, friendly environment, and it is our goal to keep it low-cost: a non-exclusive event that one can walk into off the street and decide to stay. I believe there are those—businesses, community institutions, individuals--who would like to get behind a project like this.
Sign in the Six O'Clock Sky finished its run at Theater for the New City on March 31st. It was a great experience working with the talented director Shela Xoregos, writer Arnold Schulman and the whole crew responsible for the show. The songs are up on Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/dan-furman/sets/sign-in-the-six-oclock-sky-1
"Impossible But True" Podcast Recording is completed! We are mixing and adding effects!
Stay tuned!--soon....you will be able to listen to the whole show in an online podcast, with interviews by the writer (me!) and actors who have participated (some for 10 years or more) in its development.

Stop by if you're free--this has been my main jazz piano gig for the last 10 years or so. We experiment with new arrangements of standards and play some of my originals. Singers often stop by to join us for a song or two.
