The Primordial Jazz Funktet.    Dan Furman started

the group in Atlanta, GA, and moved it to New York in 2004.

The Funktet plays Furman's compositions, which are strongly

influenced by funk and hiphop beats, as well as by world

music sounds.  

The Funktet released its first CD, "We Are Here," in early 2009.

  There is an exceptional cast of other musicians who have played with the Funktet, both in Atlanta and New York. These have included vocalists Vienna Carroll and Jace Harnage; trumpeters Yoshiro Okazaki, Tatum Greenblatt, Joe Gransden, Lee Hogans and James Cage, saxophonists Arun Luthra, Chelsea Baratz, Laura Dreyer, Rahsaan Barber, Eric South, David Freeman and Tomas Ramirez, bassists Micahel O'Brien, Joseph Lepore, Zack Pride, Alex Hernandez, Blake Gaines, George Grier and Paul Beaudry and drummers Luciana Padmore, Jun Saito, Corey Rawls, Che Marshall, Justin Brown and Pete VanNostrand.

 

"Merry-Go-Round," the first track on "We Are Here!,"was featured on the JAZZIZ Sampler Disc distributed with subscriptions to the magazine.  Fall issue, 2009.  The magazine is also available on newstands (with the CDs).
